Because one glitchladen misadventure a year wasn't enough, we now have the first in a spate of shitty would-be thief games polluting two generations of consoles. At the source: Assassin's Creed Unity - and its curious tendency to piss off feminists even more than /v/.
Assassin's Creed: Unity
Ubisoft
Further proof that cancerous is cancerous regardless of how self aware a dev is about it, this entry to the franchise demonstrated the depths to which 2K would stoop to match the release schedule and content anorexia of their rivals.
Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel!
Gearbox Software
The apogee of the CoD franchise this decade finally joins the likes of Quake and Unreal Tournament by adding innovative gameplay such as dashing and double jumps. With its well-known writing and cinematic gameplay, Advanced Warfare manages to completely miss the fucking point on how one should make video game stories compelling.
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
Sledgehammer Games
The beginning of the end for From Software's attempt to become an RPG developer of Bethesda or Square Enix's calibre. Seemingly reversing the process that gave fans exactly what they wanted after Demon's souls. Instead developers were pandered to, consoles Games For Windows Live self-destructed and annecdotes about glitches took precedent over the actual plot.
Dark Souls II
From Software
Not even its rumoured $500 million budget could gloss over the severely shallow and superficial depth of variety and versatility Destiny offered. Uninspiring writing (unfortunately added to with poor voice acting), watered-down gameplay and the general sense of 'can't be bothered' attitude left Destiny's forboding supremity feel hollow and lifeless.
Destiny
Bungie
Dragon Age: Inquisition is one of the best examples on how bioware lost touch about what a good RPG is about. Instead of compelling narrative, we get DLC-based fanfiction, instead of charismatic companions, we get deformed model attempts and the usual forced writing tied together with hilariously bad animations.
Dragon Age: Inquisition
BioWare
Jumping on the small scale yet novel gameplay bandwagon so hard the wheels rocketed off, Five Night's at Freddy's is only as scary as it is pretentious. A narcissitically auteurial ponderance that would have worked virtually the same without a player - a horror game more reminiscent of Katawa Shujo than anything else.
Five Nights at Freddy's
Scott Cawthon
$10 for an April Fools joke? Behold the respect the post Gmod indie scene has for it's audience. We'll stick to laddergoat, thanks.
Goat Simulator
Coffee Stain Studios
What's the one thing you associate most with Sonic? Speed of course! Well, not to Big Red Button; Sonic's main prowess lies in uninspring platforming, atrocious combat and a script that would make even the most sloppy of fanfics appear credible. Sonic Boom truly is "Sonic" in name/brand only.
Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric
Big Red Button
Solidifying the word 'Online' as somewhere between faggot and cunt on the list of dirty words was the most obvious cashgrab from any previously creative enterprise. Employing the same engine as The Old Republic, it's no wonder that even this nominee image game differs greatly from the final product.
The Elder Scrolls Online
Zenimax Online Studios
For a game that notifies you about to a secret location and goes about to tell you said location's position, Thie4 (as the marketers would prefer you type it) is anything but about sneaking through the grimey narrows of yesteryear, stealing prized possessions under the guise of stealth. Thief's reboot, like so many, not so much had a crisis of identity, more it completely opposed its former solid foundation.
Thief (2014)
Eidos Montreal
Provider of one of the greatest trailer to gameplay quality disparities of the past twelve months and a bullet to the foot of next generation consoles.
Watch_Dogs
Ubisoft
