Writing for a foregone conclusion is hard. That doesn't excuse the jarring character shifts Handsome Jack takes towards villainy. By the end, yeah, he's the villain, but you're not left with a sense of understanding, he just... started killing dudes. Add that to wooden protagonists, paper-thin NPCs, and more fucking Claptrap, and there's the Pre-Sequel's writing wrapped up in a bow.

Sometimes what's best is lore that isn't actually written down. It's really just too deep for the regular person to grasp. This flavor text may seem like it's just a former owner, but in actuality, it's describing the rise and fall of six empires.
Dark Souls 2

I could tell you of Destiny's horrendous dialogue with phoned-in performances. I could tell you of the wafer-thin plot told entirely through four cutscenes spread out through a 10-20 hour game. I could even tell you of the utterly disappointing final level that brings with it no feeling of accomplishment. But I don't have time to explain, why? I can't explain! Now go kill five generic zombies, six generic robots, a wizard that came from the moon, and a space turtle.

As always, the new Far Cry's protagonist suffers from a lack of motivation. Like, yeah, dead mom, I get it, but he's basically drafted into a military resistance by people he's never met against a guy he's never met when all he wants is some closure for his family, and of course there's the usual "Do you pick the BLUE GUYS or the RED GUYS" moral choice thing that means basically dick. The alternate "joke" ending is actually better than the actual story.
Far Cry 4
Ubisoft
The story actively tries not to engage you, with protagonists whose personalities have literally been scrubbed from them, a setting that bores and depresses more than anything, and a plot that goes nowhere fast. Anyone that stuck with Lightning this long probably just wants to lick her armpits though, and the game doesn't disappoint on that level, I guess.
Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII
Square Enix
Switching to the "Saturday Morning Cartoon" writing style in Sonic Unleashed was the closest thing Sonic Team had to a good idea. The developers of Rise of Lyric had the same idea, except they lifted the empty characters and terrible justifications from, well, Sonic Boom, and trotted out the old "Eggman releases a force he can't control" horse to try and beat some more rings out of it, to no effect.

Forget the Gloom, if I catch the Foundryman's Droop.

There is none. The "single player" campaign is just the multiplayer with some rushed dialogue. You don't need a single player campaign to make a good shooter, but if you are willing add one, at least make the effort.

I consider my uncle a cool guy, and the only time I see him is on holidays, when his computer's broken, and when he wants to score weed from one of my friends. What the fuck is Aiden Pearce's deal that he cares so much about his dead nephew? Think about it. If YOU died, would your uncle turn into a GTA protagonist to avenge your death?
